Cuddly Aura. The puffling emits a calming presence in a 10-foot radius. Any creature that starts its turn in this aura must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by the puffling for 1 minute. A charmed creature can’t attack the puffling or target it with harmful abilities. The puffling can end this effect early as a bonus action. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the puffling’s Cuddly Aura for the next 24 hours.
Nonviolent Nature. The puffling cannot take the Attack action and has no damaging attacks. It prioritizes fleeing or hiding in combat.
Actions
Healing Nuzzle. Melee Spell Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: The target regains 1d6 + 3 hit points. The puffling can use this action up to three times per day, regaining expended uses after a long rest.
Soothing Purr (Recharge 5-6). The puffling emits a magical purr in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area regains 1d4 hit points and has advantage on its next saving throw against being frightened or charmed. This ability doesn’t affect undead or constructs.
Lore and Usage
Pufflings are often found in enchanted groves or as companions to druids and rangers. They reproduce by shedding fur tufts that grow into new pufflings under moonlight. In a campaign, they could serve as quest givers (through empathic communication), healing aides, or even familiars for spellcasters via the find familiar spell variant. If threatened, a group of pufflings might band together to use their auras to pacify aggressors, creating opportunities for peaceful resolutions.
